Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP) for Metro Vancouver IT

Effective Date: September 16, 2025

This Acceptable Usage Policy (“AUP”) governs the use of services provided by Metro Vancouver IT. All customers and users of our services must comply with this AUP to help maintain the integrity, security, and reliability of our infrastructure.


1. General Conduct

You agree not to use Metro Vancouver IT services for any unlawful, abusive, or harmful purposes. Prohibited uses include, but are not limited to:

  • Hosting or distributing illegal content (pirated software, copyrighted material without permission, child exploitation, or other unlawful content).
  • Running websites that promote hate speech, violence, or discrimination.
  • Engaging in fraudulent activities such as phishing, identity theft, or credit card fraud.
  • Hosting malware, viruses, or tools intended to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to systems.

2. Email and Spam Policy

  • Unsolicited bulk email (spam) is strictly prohibited.
  • Sending email to purchased, rented, or harvested lists is not permitted.
  • Use of Metro Vancouver IT servers for mailing lists or newsletters must comply with anti-spam regulations (including Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation).
  • If you send email through our servers, you must include valid unsubscribe options and accurate sender information.

3. Resource Usage

To ensure fair use of shared hosting resources, customers must not:

  • Use excessive server CPU, memory, or bandwidth that negatively impacts other customers.
  • Run resource-heavy applications (such as game servers, crypto-mining, or large-scale video streaming) on shared hosting plans.
  • Use hosting accounts primarily for storing backups or non-website-related files.

4. Security

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your website and account, including:

  • Keeping WordPress, plugins, and themes updated.
  • Using strong, regularly updated passwords.
  • Ensuring scripts, applications, or code installed do not expose vulnerabilities.
  • Reporting any suspected security incidents to Metro Vancouver IT immediately.

5. Network and System Abuse

You must not:

  • Attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any system without authorization.
  • Launch Denial of Service (DoS) or Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.
  • Forge headers, alter IP packets, or engage in activities that disrupt network traffic.
  • Interfere with the services of other customers or third parties.

6. Content Restrictions

Metro Vancouver IT does not permit hosting content that is:

  • Pornographic or sexually explicit material.
  • Promoting illegal drugs or unlawful activities.
  • Infringing on third-party intellectual property rights.
  • Primarily designed for file sharing, torrents, or warez distribution.

7. Enforcement and Suspension

  • Violations of this AUP may result in suspension or termination of your account without notice.
  • Metro Vancouver IT reserves the right to remove content or restrict services that violate this AUP.
  • Repeated or serious violations may result in permanent service termination.

8. Liability Disclaimer

Metro Vancouver IT is not responsible for customer actions that violate this AUP. Customers are fully responsible for all activities conducted through their accounts.


9. Changes to the AUP

This AUP may be updated from time to time. Updates will be posted at https://metrovancouverit.ca/acceptable-usage-policy/. Continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of the revised AUP.
